چکیده

* Dr. Rosen is with the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Warminster, PA Abstract A critical factor in the design of any parallel processing computer system is the interconnection network between processors. Latency, throughput and other network factors weigh heavily on the performance of any parallel program. In this paper, the average latency and sustained throughput for a ten-node, SPARC-based SCI cluster is tested and measured based on variations in message size, cluster or ring size, and transfer method. These results are compared with corresponding TCP/IP-based Ethernet values in order to help gauge the potential of COTS SCI clusters for supporting parallel processing environments and applications.

Design and Implementation of the OpenMP Programming Interface on Linux-based SMP Clusters

Recently, cluster computing has successfully provided a cost-effective solution for data-intensive applications. In order to make the programming on clusters easy, many programming toolkits such as MPICH, PVM, and DSM have been proposed in past researches. However, these programming toolkits are not easy enough for common users to develop parallel applications. To address this problem, we have ...

Parallel Processing Experiments on an SCI-based Workstation Cluster

* Dr. Rosen is with the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Warminster, PA Abstract This paper describes the SCI-based workstation cluster system being developed at the HCS Research Lab and the parallel processing and network experiments that have been conducted and the results achieved. Using several different input sizes and degrees of partitioning and granularity for the parallel pr...

T High-bandwidth Distributed Computing Parallel Fiber-optic Sci Links

he drive to include more and more processors and I/O devices in parallel processor complexes has created a need for box-to-box interconnection links capable of delivering bandwidth comparable to system backplanes. Point-to-point links overcome the speed and cost constraints of shared buses. However, copper-based point-to-point links can reliably carry high-speed data only a limited distance. Pa...

Developing Java Grid Applications with Ibis

Ibis is a programming environment for the development of grid applications in Java. We aim to support a wide range of applications and parallel platforms, so our example programs should also go beyond small benchmarks. In this paper we describe a number of larger applications we have developed to evaluate Ibis’ suitability for writing grid applications: a cellular automata simulator, a solver f...

Enhancing the Performance of Tiled Loop Execution onto Clusters Using Memory Mapped Network Interfaces and Pipelined Schedules

This paper describes the performance benefits attained using enhanced network interfaces to achieve low latency communication. Our experimental testbed concerns the parallel execution of tiled nested loops onto a Linux PC cluster with PCI-SCI NICs (Dolphin D330). Tiles are necessarily exchanging data and should also have large computational grain, so that their parallel execution becomes benefi...
